The True Rocky Mount Facebook Videos Have Created Something Fresh Innovative, Impossible to Ignore

I have been writing about Rocky Mount on my blog, Mainstreetrockymount.com since 2015. About its history, its architecture, its people, its challenges, and its possibilities. During that time, I have seen countless attempts to engage citizens through speeches, editorials, council meetings, statistics, and social media debates.

Then along comes The True Rocky Mount and something entirely new happens.

Their music videos are the most innovative civic communication tool I have seen emerge in Rocky Mount.

What impresses me is not simply the message. It is the medium.

Someone looked at the same old problems and the same old ways of talking about them and created something fresh, creative, and impossible to ignore. Through original music, storytelling, humor, and technology, they have found a way to capture attention and get people thinking about the future of our city.

Whether one agrees with every point being made is almost beside the point. People are watching. People are listening. People are talking. That is how civic engagement begins.

I have listened to all the videos and continue to be amazed by the imagination, effort, and production quality behind them. Rocky Mount has never seen anything quite like this.

For years we have talked about the need for change. Change often begins when someone is willing to challenge old assumptions and try a new approach. These videos do exactly that.

Congratulations to everyone involved with The True Rocky Mount. You have created something original, intelligent, engaging, and genuinely innovative.

Every generation finds its own language. Perhaps these videos are the language that finally gets Rocky Mount’s attention.

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but watch this one and judge for yourself. “Same Old Names, Same Old Pain, Rocky Mount Keeps Voting the Same ” https://youtu.be/ob6ujxb-Trc?si=pO2oPCsD90HzSfNB
