Main Street Ready For Christmas

This time of year always has a nostalgic side to it as we remember Christmas past. I was an only child, and showered with wonderful presents. Each year my mother would receive beautiful handkerchiefs that are precious to me today.

The live Christmas tree was set up in the music room and had the old fashion big bulb colored lights. The line from the song, I’ll Be Home For Christmas still brings a tear, and there were presents round the tree.

Today there are quiet reminders that the world still holds wonder, if we’re willing to look for it. We all had a ‘Main Street’ where storefronts glimmered and the feeling of being a part of something warm and welcoming has lasted within us.

These few images are for you with Christmas love. And, with prayers for the continued revitalization of the commercial buildings along Main Street and beyond.

Each Christmas season is a reminder that even in a hurried world, there are places where a wreath in a window or a bow on a railing can stir something old and cherished within us.

In the glow of these small Christmas moments, we remember who we are to one another. We remember that kindness still matters, that beauty still heals, and that Jesus loves us this we know.

As we think of the coming year, let us carry a quiet assurance that what is warm and good in this world has a way of lasting, year after year and this is what Rocky Mount can offer those who call it home.
