Just So You Know…A Sunday Note From Stepheny

Blogging, like Main Street itself, is evolving.

Today’s readers aren’t sitting at desktops. They’re scrolling on their phones—between errands, appointments, and moments of quiet.

I want to keep sharing what matters: preservation, restoration, and the future of Rocky Mount’s historic heart—while recognizing how most people are reading the blog these days.

Starting today, you’ll notice a few gentle shifts in how this blog looks. (Shorter paragraphs) I’ll now be posting on Sundays and Wednesdays. These small changes are meant to make posts easier to read by phone, while continuing to offer the kind of content I care deeply about.

A friend once advised, “Look at your blog like standing in front of a painting on a wall. Your job is to help people see it differently.”

That’s the essence of what I hope this blog is doing—offering a new way of seeing what’s always been there.

Why does this matter to me?
Exposed to Chicago architecture and the beautiful homes of the North Shore while growing up, I received an education that led to a passion. Blogging about the craftsmanship and quiet dignity of structures that have stood for generations brings me joy—and I hope provides you with a renewed sense of place and purpose.

I believe in Rocky Mount’s revitalization, and in the power of storytelling to spark civic pride. I believe that when we restore what’s been neglected, our efforts are worth it.

This blog isn’t just about old facades and fresh paint.
It’s about honoring what we’ve been given—and building something worthy of passing on.

So welcome to this next chapter.
I’ll be here on Sundays and Wednesdays, just as enthusiastic—but now a little easier to read in the palm of your hand.

With a Sunday kind of love,
Stepheny

Wednesday brings a different kind of story.
I hope you’ll come back and read along.
