Three Downtown Buildings: Restored to Their Original Beauty

“Cities are remembered not only for what they build new, but for what they choose to keep.” SFH

These buildings matter. They are a presence in the story of Rocky Mount; not burdens but possibilities. They still possess beauty, dignity, and purpose. These photographs show us that restoration does not begin with money or construction. It begins when we look at an old building and see value where others only see decline. Beneath peeling paint, empty windows, tangled wires, and years of neglect, there remains craftsmanship, proportion, and character that can never be replaced once lost.

The back of 203 SE Main Street

Don’t you LOVE the back of this building. It looks like the entrance to a wonderful house in France or some where equally romantic. For starters, imagine this landscaped with containers of small shrubs or flowers beneath the three windows on the right. Perhaps the building could be split in half with a home on the back two stories and a Main Street business facing Main Street with office rental space above for …you name it. For more information on this building, read a Mainstreetrockymount.com blog just published:

  1. Another wonderful blog highlighting downtown. The buildings are beautiful. Hopefully we will see them fixed and full soon.
