Rocky Mount, NC: Main Street Celebrates The Evolution Of The Craftsman Bungalow

A TINY HOUSE

The Main Street blog is preoccupied with the bungalow and shot gun houses of Rocky Mount. When I came across a Southernliving.org article on a Tiny House in a craftsman style, I was immediately charmed.

“In the embrace of simplicity and a homage to artisanal craftsmanship, the concept of the Craftsman tiny home comes alive with a twist of modernity and a nod to the past. The inspiration behind this abode is a blend of the timeless beauty of the Arts and Crafts movement and the efficiency and sustainability of contemporary tiny living.” Holly Owens-Contributing Writer (The photos had no attribution)

Main Street has posted many blogs about the bungalow. I invite you to scroll back and read them. Familiar with their interiors, you will agree that this Tiny House adaption is ‘way cool.’ The art of craftsmanship is the signature of a bungalow. Throughout Rocky Mount’s neighborhoods you will find fabulous restored bungalows and those waiting for a new life. As your real estate blogger, I highly recommend you buy one, restore it and live happily ever after. I must mention the shot gun houses, that are an answer to low income housing already in place. Perfect for singles working close by, 1st time home owners, retired folks looking to size down. The shotguns are an answer and a great asset to have and to hold.

If only the city leadership and Council would initiate a determined effort to survey the location of every shot gun, its condition, ownership, is it savable? In other cities, shotgun houses have been moved; one by one preserved and restored. (Give me a desk, a phone, access to department help, a pay check and I will orchestrate immediately a survey leading to action) Now, if I can do this isn’t there a person already in place to head this project?

I hope you have already seen or stayed at the Tiny Houses out at the Mill. If not, go see them. When you do, remember the Craftsman Tiny House in this post. Hats off to the imaginative and creative minds that take a architectural gem and turn it into a Tiny House.
