Rocky Mount is in the middle of a financial mess, and no one can pretend otherwise. Misused funds, hidden accounts, and the long shadow of mismanagement have left us angry, and wondering if justice will this time be served.
Monday through Friday, I will have a one minute post with a Wendell Berry, quotation, the Kentucky writer who I have turned to in this scandal.
His voice does not excuse wrongdoing, but it does point to another way of holding this moment, without giving up on ourselves, our neighbors, or our city.
My hope is simple: that we can face the mess head-on while still remembering Rocky Mount is worth believing in.
