Rocky Mount is in the middle of a financial mess, and no one can pretend otherwise. Misused funds, hidden accounts, and the long shadow of mismanagement have left us angry, feeling powerless and demanding justice.
Starting tomorrow, (Monday, September 29,) I’ll be sharing a short (1 minute) daily reflection drawn from the words of Wendell Berry, a Kentucky writer, who I turned to in the face of last weeks Rocky Mount’s financial revelations.
Berry’s voice does not excuse wrongdoing, but it does point to another way of holding this moment, without giving up on ourselves, our neighbors, or our city.
Each day this Monday through Friday, I will post one Berry quote and a short reflection. My hope is simple: that we can face the scandal head-on while still remembering Rocky Mount is worth believing in.
