Main Street Readers: Stepheny Is Going Fishing

Dear Friends and Readers:

For those of us who love to walk the old sidewalks, peek behind the facades, and tell the stories that stitch the past to the future, summer offers me a time to pause, and concentrate on several ’causes’ I have.

So, with deep affection for what Mainstreetrockymount.com has become and the community it has gathered, I’m putting a “Gone Fishing” sign on the blog for July and August.

This Sunday’s post will be my last for a while as I turn my focus to some local efforts I hope to take before the City Council. I believe strongly in what historic preservation, civic storytelling, and a shared sense of place can mean for Rocky Mount.

I want to give several of my causes the attention it takes to bring it to the attention of those who can support the priority I hope to cultivate.

I’m not going far. Just stepping onto the porch with a tall glass of iced tea, a phone to make appointments, and a notebook in my lap. Top priority….awnings. We need to address this singular blight. I’m going to get my research together and tap dance into a city council meeting in my best bib and tucker and pitch my project in 3 minutes!!!!!!

Thank you for every visit, comment, and kind word. If you’ve found value in what we’ve built here together, don’t go anywhere. We’ll pick things up in the fall, with fresh stories, new perspectives, and all my heart.

Until then, enjoy the summer, go out for delicious food, take in a baseball game, take on a project at home that will improve your curb appeal. Help a neighbor that can use your hand.

Warmly,
Stepheny Houghtlin
