Culinary Heritage: Discover Haiti’s Flavors in Rocky Mount’s Historic Setting – Kafe Louverture

When I first saw this restored historical facade just off Main Street on Tarboro, I felt like the little girl I once was, opening my mother’s jewelry box to discover a shiny broach, a sparkly bracelet, an old ring, a gold choker necklace. This restored facade and interior are like a found treasure buried in the yard, long forgotten, but found. Take a moment and look at this video clip about Kafe Louverture. It will intrigue you. I keep repeating, fantastic.

I haven’t been in but this is my week to get there. The genius and hard work of this couple, with a great location, a saved property, wow, thank you for relocating to Rocky Mount.

PS: An added thought about preserving the historical aesthetics of preservation.

Above you can see in the photo that mounted on this little jewel box is a new electrical box, wiring. It looks terrible. It was explained to me that going inside the buildings to read the meters was no longer something the city wanted to do. This photo a few stores down is unsightly too. I know it only takes money, but isn’t there a way to address these wires one building at a time when restoration is occurring? If there is the will, there must be a way.
