I made a quick trip to Main Street today. Photographing the cherry trees, I saw a parallel between the blooming cherry trees and the revitalization of downtown. Both embody a sense of rejuvenation and growth. Just as the cherry blossoms evoke a sense of wonder and awe, so do the restored buildings that evoke a sense of pride and admiration.

Like the cherry trees that herald the arrival of spring, the restoration efforts on Main Street serve as a beacon of hope and renewal. Just as the blossoms emerge from the dormant branches, the once-neglected buildings are being revitalized, their facades restored to their former glory. Each freshly painted storefront, each lovingly preserved detail, is a testament to the resilience of this community and its commitment to honoring its past while embracing the future.

This may be my favorite photo from being downtown today. A train came by that is an iconic image of Rocky Mount. You can see the edge of one of the benches in place along Main Street. The wind swirled the cherry blossoms that looked like confetti. Each petal not only represents the renewal and hope of Spring, but is a lovely metaphor for the revitalization of Main Street.

We need to protect the architectural treasures that grace Main Street. The work of preservation is ongoing, requiring dedication, passion, and resources to ensure that future generations can continue to marvel at the beauty of Rocky Mount’s architectural past. Just as the altar is stripped in the darkening church on this Holy Thursday, let us strip all the things that no longer serve us. In these Easter days I hope you find beauty along the way.

Thank you for sharing the wonderful cherry blossom “festival” on Main Street with us, Stepheny ~ peace be with you! 💕
