To Pause at the Threshold is a slim volume written by Esther de Waal. She writes about a traditional ancient wisdom that says, “A threshold is a sacred thing.” It marks the end of one thing and the beginning of another, the places in between, the points of transition.
Pausing after Christmas, I wonder what the New Year will hold for family, friends, and for the continued revitalization of Rocky Mount, NC. To wonder about the plight of the world is too large to write about now so I contemplate with great faith a saved building, a new business, the entrepreneur, a new doorway to enter.
Years ago I spent time with a wonderful woman, Chris Gellings. She was a nun living away from her convent and had a practice in Durham, NC. It was a great experience. At the end of a session, she would always say, “Go Gently.” To this day, I remember this lovely thought when needed. As we cross the threshold into a New Year, I say to each of the readers of Main Street, “Go gently.”
We have each other, a Lord who loves us, a special spot in the world to hang together creating a good life for one another through Unity. In 2024, let’s consider it a sacred crossing that is filled with possibilities that restore the streets we walk on.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
