Rocky Mount, NC: Mayoral Race 2023 YOUR VOTE MATTERS

Last Main Street Blog Post Until After The Election

Elected in 2019, the race looked like this:

Sandy Roberson (Nonpartisan) 48.2 4,730 Bronson Williams (Nonpartisan) 27.1 2,659
Kevin Jones (Nonpartisan) Candidate Connection 23.1 2,269
Total votes: 9,814

As the newly elected mayor, Sandy Roberson brought more than 30 years of professional experience in the healthcare industry including operations in nursing facilities, therapy, pharmacy, hospice, and physician clinics. He owned and operated one of the largest hospice and healthcare provider companies in the Carolinas –Community Home Care & Hospice, and was CEO of Carrolton Management Company. Mayor Roberson is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and is currently owns HealthView Capital Partners and Carrolton Facility Management. Mayor Roberson is a former member of the AHHC Government Affairs Committee and was a finalist in the NEER Entrepreneur Awards. His business background, the creation of jobs, his platform for the city, brought this highly qualified man to office. (Sandy Roberson and Bronson Williams advanced to a runoff. How quickly these four years have passed.

Mr. Bronson Williams is an experienced manager with a demonstrated history of working in the broadcast media industry. He is skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Event Planning, Advertising, Event Management, and Public Speaking. He is a strong professional with a degree in Communication from East Carolina University. Mr. Williams lost that 2019 mayoral race and lost again to Richard Joyner, Ward #3 Councilman in 2022. The community appreciates the role Mr. Williams fills with his radio presence, keeping those who follow the program up to date with the Rocky Mount news, and his interesting interviews that highlight the voices of Rocky Mount. These two losses have nothing to do, as I see it, with Mr. Williams position in the community. He is well liked, works hard for Rocky Mount, but evidently voters don’t see his role in city government as his best fit.

Isn’t it something that once again Councilman Andre Knight, with his negative presence plays into this mayoral race. The criticism Mayor Roberson gets is managing the bad behavior and bullying that comes from Knight, which is thought to be insufficient. On one of the recent broadcasts, Mr. Knight called in and with admiration, I listened as Mr. Bronson stood his ground pursuing a question he had asked. That expression, ‘it is like herding cats’ is applicable to trying to deal with Councilman Knight. Another words, it’s not easy. The Council minus Knight will make the Mayor’s job and fellow councilman easier and Rocky Mount will benefit immensely.

It is encouraging that we have candidates willing to run in this election cycle. All their efforts are appreciated. Regardless of the results, Rocky Mount will benefit from their continuing leadership. I am visualizing people at the polls voting. Make sure one of them is you.

Thank all of you for keeping me company on Main Street and for taking a part in the chorus. I salute the Repairers of the Breach here in Rocky Mount and have actually dedicated a novel to them. We are in this together and need be thankful for one another….all God’s Children.
