The Power and Sanctity of the Right to Vote – October 10 – Rocky Mount, NC

Encouraging voting with persuasive reasons is on the minds of artists and mayors. This sculpture is on display in the Kress Building, Montgomery, Alabama. This can be seen at the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization that works with communities marginalized by poverty. V-O-T-E was commissioned by Montgomery’s mayor for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery march. Each ten-foot sculpted letter injects symbolism into a movement that expanded voting rights.

V painted in graffiti represents anger in an urban art form.

O featured a map bridging the void between two Alabama cities.

T is a collage of various 1964 ballots and is topped by a white rooster.

E represents patriotism and all that is American.

All combined, this sculpture represents the power and sanctity of the right to vote.

Robust voter participation sustains and accelerates positive outcomes for the people who call Rocky Mount home. Carefully consider the following words of wisdom.

“If American women would increase their voting turnout by 10%, we would see an end to all budget cuts in programs benefiting women and children.” – – Coretta Scott King

I challenge all females reading this to prove Mrs. King right.
